"New York Times": Bulgaria is among the top destinations for 2025

Bulgaria has been named one of the best destinations for tourism after our full entry into Schengen, according to a ranking by The New York Times. The publication has published its annual list of the 52 best places to visit in 2025.

Thanks to our country's full acceptance into Schengen, travel to and from Bulgaria is easier. In addition, the expectations that Bulgaria will adopt the euro will further facilitate tourists arriving from abroad, the publication writes.

"Traveling to Bulgaria is becoming easier than ever, as visitors arriving from most European Union countries will no longer have to go through border checks. The eastern European country is soon expected to adopt the euro. A good starting point is the capital Sofia, an ancient cultural crossroads and home to the Triangle of Religious Tolerance. It is an area home to Catholic cathedrals, Jewish temples, Muslim mosques and Orthodox churches. You can take a walk through Rila National Park, a high-altitude wonderland, and visit the mystical Rila Monastery. Allow a day or three for Plovdiv, with its lively nightlife. Alternatively, climb the steep streets of Veliko Tarnovo or relax in a Black Sea resort," advises the renowned publication.

The New York Times concludes with a recommendation to readers to try the underrated Bulgarian wines that add extra flavor to an already unforgettable trip. The list is designed to offer travelers a variety of cultural, natural and adventurous experiences.
