The European Urban Initiative (the Initiative) is planning a series of calls for proposals for cooperation between European local authorities. This component of the Initiative aims to build capacity for planning and implementation of policies for sustainable development at the local, regional and national level. Joint actions with networks of municipalities financed under the URBACT IV Program are planned.
On 04.03.2023, 2 invitations will be announced - for bilateral "city (municipality) - city (municipality)" exchange and for joint reviews of local policies.
Bilateral exchange
The bilateral exchange is an exchange of on-site visits as well as holding online forums between a candidate municipality and one or two "lead" municipalities. Leading municipalities share new/innovative working approaches and methods for the implementation of local policies on sustainable urban development.
Who can join? Proposals are accepted by all local authorities from the EU member states interested in the planning and implementation of European policies and instruments for urban development. Other local partners are also allowed to participate, at the discretion of the local authority.
Collaborative reviews
Joint reviews take the form of workshops, through which "leading" local authorities review the planning documents of their partners, with the aim of improving against European good practices. Participating local authorities and cities can improve their capacity to prepare and implement integrated and partnership approaches for urban and territorial development. Participants can be from one or several EU member states and be involved in the implementation of development plans, in accordance with Art. 11 of the EU ERDF Regulation.
