The contribution of Bulgarian municipalities to reducing the impact of climate change

A seminar "Integrating mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change" is being held in Sofia today. The forum is organized by NAMRB, as a national partner of the cooperation mechanism within the framework of the Convention of Mayors - the largest movement in the world of cities and regions that take action in the field of climate and energy.

The aim is to support local and regional authorities in the development and implementation of strategies for adaptation to climate change and to stimulate the exchange of good practices between cities, municipalities and regions. The forum focused its two sessions on the national context of measures and actions related to climate change and the achievements of Bulgarian and foreign local and regional authorities in adapting to the changes.

Key participants in the seminar are the Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Reneta Koleva, the Mayor of the Municipality of Gabrovo and National Ambassador of Bulgaria to the Convention of Mayors Tanya Hristova, the Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality Desislav Bileva, the Chairman of the Board of NDEF Penka Mollova-Smolenova , Vyara Koleva - director of the "Ecology" Directorate in Plovdiv Municipality and Ivaylo Trendafilov - head of the first energy office in the country, established by the Municipality of Burgas.

The possibilities for financial support of the measures taken by the municipalities to adapt to the clichéd changes will be presented by Lyubomir Tsarev - senior expert at the FLAG Fund.

The seminar "Integration of measures for mitigation and adaptation to climate change" is held in Sofia, Hotel "Sofia Balkan".

The Covenant of Mayors was established in 2008 by the European Commission to support cities and regions to meet the EU's climate and energy targets for 2020. The Covenant is currently strengthening its role by adapting its climate commitment to the target of the EU to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. The initiative also creates a new chamber of national ambassadors to support the deployment of the Convention in each member state. The number of signatories of the Covenant of Mayors participants is over 10,000, and they receive technical support and financial guidance for the development and implementation of energy and climate plans.
