Tryavna Municipality is taking further steps to strengthen public safety and improve preparedness for disasters and emergencies. During a working meeting between Mayor Dencho Minev, Commissioner Plamen Genchev, Director of the Regional Directorate “Fire Safety and Civil Protection” – Gabrovo, Chief Inspector Stoyan Stoyanov, Head of the Regional Fire Safety and Civil Protection Service in Tryavna, and Senior Inspector Gergana Ilieva, Head of the Preventive Control and Prevention Unit at the Regional Directorate in Gabrovo, participants discussed specific measures for prevention and early warning in emergency situations.

One of the key decisions taken during the meeting was to set a deadline of 30 October 2028 for the construction of a local warning system for the Tryavna micro-reservoir. The system will play a crucial role in providing early warning in the event of potential overflow or flooding by enabling timely alerts to the Operational Centre of the General Directorate “Fire Safety and Civil Protection” of the Ministry of Interior, allowing for a faster institutional response and more effective protection of the population.

To support the implementation of the project, the municipality will seek funding through relevant national and European programmes. The municipal administration also recalled that an Emergency Response Plan for the Tryavna reservoir was prepared and approved in 2025, forming an important part of the municipality’s risk management system.

The meeting also explored the possibility of introducing a real-time water level monitoring system along the Tryavna River, modelled on the system already operating successfully in Gabrovo Municipality. Such a system would contribute to earlier detection of potential risks and improve coordination during emergency situations.

Particular attention was also given to the preparedness of the Tryavna Volunteer Emergency Response Unit. Participants discussed the training of volunteers, their response capacity during emergencies and opportunities to further strengthen their knowledge and skills through future training programmes.

“The health and safety of our citizens come first, and there can be no compromise on that. Prevention is the key to ensuring peace of mind and security for the entire community, especially when it comes to disasters and emergencies,” stressed Mayor Dencho Minev.

The municipality also called on residents to continue observing fire safety rules, particularly during the summer months when the risk of wildfires is significantly higher. Households are encouraged to install smoke detectors for the early detection of fires and to avoid lighting open fires, discarding cigarette butts, or engaging in other activities that could cause wildfires.
