The municipalities of Levski, Belene, Nikopol and Knezha support archaeological excavations in the region

The Roman colony "Ulpia Escus" near the village of Gigen, the fortress "Dimum" near Belene and the Nikopol fortress are among the sites that archaeologists in the Pleven region will explore this summer.  The research will involve not only teams from the Regional History Museum (RIM) in Pleven, but also from the Archaeological Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Regional History Museum - Sofia. This is what the director of RIM - Pleven, Dr. Volodya Popov, says in an interview for BTA.
