As of July 1, Sofia Municipality has officially partnered with Waze for Cities to provide real-time traffic information directly through the Waze app. Residents and visitors of the capital can now rely on more accurate and timely navigation, helping them avoid roadworks, street closures, and other traffic-impacting events throughout the city.
Thanks to this collaboration, Waze users will also receive automatic notifications about major public events and long-term construction projects in Sofia. The information is provided by the city's Traffic Management and Analysis Directorate and is visible both in the Waze mobile app and on the Waze Live Map.
In addition to sharing information with drivers, Sofia Municipality will also use Waze’s analytical tools to improve long-term traffic planning and make data-driven decisions for the benefit of all road users.
“The partnership with Waze gives us another opportunity to reach people who move around Sofia and inform them in real time about important traffic changes—so they can avoid unpleasant surprises on the road,”
said Ivan Goichev, Deputy Mayor of Sofia for Digitalization.
The initiative is supported by the active contribution of the Bulgarian Waze editor community, which plays a key role in maintaining and updating traffic data across the platform.
With this step, Sofia strengthens its position as a smart, connected, and forward-thinking city focused on improving the daily experience of its citizens and guests.
