“Giro d’Italia is a strategic opportunity to showcase Bulgaria to the world,” said the Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, who is also a member of the Management Board of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB), in an interview for the morning show “Zdravei, Bulgaria” on Nova TV.
During the broadcast, he even got on a bicycle and symbolically demonstrated how the capital is preparing for the major cycling event.
His participation comes ahead of Bulgaria’s hosting of one of the most prestigious cycling races in the world – Giro d’Italia, with the final stage taking place in Sofia.
Terziev emphasized that the event has significant potential to promote Bulgaria internationally and attract global attention. Between 8 and 10 May, the country will be in the focus of worldwide sporting interest, with the race expected to reach hundreds of millions of viewers globally.
The final in Sofia will pass through key boulevards, including Tsarigradsko Shose, which will be fully closed to car traffic for the first time and opened to spectators.
A total of 184 riders from 23 teams are expected to participate, along with increased tourist interest. In addition to the sporting competition, a series of cultural events will be held across the city, turning the Giro d’Italia final into a major celebration for residents and visitors of the capital.
Other municipalities across the country are also actively involved in the preparation of the event, working on route organization and accompanying initiatives to ensure successful nationwide coordination.
