Pernik Municipality will award five doctors for saving the children`s ward at the hospital

The Municipal Council in Pernik will vote for five doctors to be awarded the honorary badge of the Municipality for their personal contribution to saving the children's ward at the Rahila Angelova Hospital. The proposal was submitted in March by the then director of the health facility, Emil Nenkov.

At the beginning of the year, the children's ward in Pernik was threatened with closure due to a lack of staff. Ways were sought daily to save it. An appeal was made to all doctors in the territory of the Pernik municipality to help with on-call duty. The request was responded to by general practitioners Dr. Vesselina Nikiforova, Dr. Mihaela Perfanova and Dr. Alexandra Valcheva, all three with specialties in "General Medicine" and "Pediatrics". Thanks to their support and that of Dr. Olga Metodieva and Dr. Kristin Dobreva, who remained working in the department despite the crisis, the medical pediatric care was preserved, writes Emil Nenkov in his proposal to the Municipal Council of Pernik.

The proposal is supported by the Mayor of Pernik Stanislav Vladimirov. It has been reviewed and approved by the standing committees on health and social activities and on regional policy, local government, citizen complaints and regulations in the Municipal Council.

The big problem with the children's department at the Rakhila Angelova Hospital in Pernik is escalating again. Currently, the unit is functioning with a single doctor - Dr. Metodieva, while three of her colleagues are on sick leave. This situation makes it impossible to provide 24-hour care for the youngest patients, as there is no doctor on duty at night.
