Municipalities today

The Municipality of Breznik will be twinned with the Italian Municipality of Sardara (Sardinia region). The invitation to establish a permanent partnership came from the Italian side after the International Masquerade Games Festival held in Pernik in January.

The contact between Breznik and Sardara takes place due to the presence of unique and completely identical archaeological sites on their territory. In the city of Sardara there is the temple-well "Santa Anastasia". The facility is part of a nuragic complex, which includes two more cult wells. This makes it unique in the context of known Nuragic settlements, where sacred wells are usually built independently. It is similar to the ones discovered during excavations in 1972 and is the only temple-well "Pusto Garlo" near the Breznik village of Garlo.

To date, there have been no systematic scientific studies and the cultural-historical interpretations of the well near Gurlo remain hypothetical.

The twinning between the two municipalities will provide an opportunity to implement various projects related to research, conservation and protection of these landmarks, as well as opportunities to exchange experience in other fields of activity.
