With a solemn ceremony and a true Olympic spirit, Nikolaevo joined the celebration of the International Olympic Day. The event began with the performance of the Olympic anthem, lighting the Olympic flame and the symbolic release of five doves - like the five rings of the Olympic Games emblem.

The marathon was officially started by the Secretary General of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) Belcho Goranov and the Mayor of Nikolaevo Municipality Konstantin Kostov. About 50 participants took part in the marathon, more than half of whom were students from local schools.

The sporting event is the result of the joint efforts of the BOC and the Municipality of Nikolaevo. Before the start of the event, Goranov and Mayor Kostov discussed future projects and support for schools in the city. Some of the initiatives include the Youth Olympic Festival in the resort. "Albena", which this year will be held for the 18th time, as well as training seminars for physical education teachers in partnership with the National Sports Academy.

"I greet you for your energy and enthusiasm to celebrate the Olympic values ​​- respect, friendship and cooperation. I am glad that today is taking place thanks to the active participation of our friend and fellow citizen - General Secretary of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee Belcho Goranov. I take this opportunity to thank him for the attitude and support he has shown us. I hope that the marathon creates joy, a desire for physical activity and sports competitions," said Mayor Konstantin Kostov.

The first place in the competition was taken by Lyuben Anev from the "Atanas Damyanov" Primary School, the second place went to Iliya Vassilev from the same school, and the third place was taken by Rumen Rumenov from the 6th grade of the "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" Primary School.

The event in Nikolaevo was part of the national events organized in over 40 cities in the country on the occasion of International Olympic Day, with the aim of promoting Olympic values ​​and encouraging young people to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
