“We are creating conditions for active sports for all ages,” said the Deputy Mayor of Stara Zagora, Nadezhda Chakurova, in an interview for Bulgaria ON AIR, commenting on the opening of a new street fitness площадка in the yard of the Ninth Primary School “Veselin Hanchev”.
The facility includes a Swedish wall and shock-absorbing rubber flooring and is designed to encourage an active lifestyle among students and local residents. The project was implemented in partnership between Stara Zagora Municipality and Rotary Club Stara Zagora – Beroe.
During the official opening, Chakurova emphasized that this is another joint project between the municipality and the club, following similar facilities already built in other schools in the city. She noted that, on the initiative of the mayor, school spaces are open to the public, allowing the facilities to be used outside school hours.
The school principal also expressed gratitude for the implementation of the initiative, highlighting that the new facility will benefit both students and their families.
Representatives of Rotary International added that the project is part of a broader effort to promote sports and active lifestyles among young people.
With the implementation of the new facility, Stara Zagora Municipality continues to develop an accessible and modern sports environment open to all age groups.
