The Mayor of Ruse Pencho Milkov and the Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria, Yordanka Chobanova, officially opened the “Europe Direct” centre in the Danube city today.

Milkov explained that in the period 2026–2030 the Municipality of Ruse will serve as the hosting structure of the “Europe Direct – Ruse” information centre, which is part of the “Europe Direct” network operating under the European Commission.

“I am extremely happy and proud to launch the Europe Direct centre under the responsibilities of the Municipality of Ruse. It should truly serve as an effective bridge between people and the European institutions. The European institutions should not remain distant concepts, but people should have knowledge about them, communicate freely and express themselves through Europe. I thank you for the trust to assign us this task by the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria,” said Milkov.

Yordanka Chobanova stated that, in a highly competitive process, the municipality has successfully earned the right to host a “Europe Direct” centre in Ruse.

“We hope that in this way everyone will have access to the most up-to-date information related to exchanges, projects and travel in Europe. There are extremely many opportunities available. Our goal is for these opportunities to reach as many people as possible. And when they understand what Europe offers, they should feel proud as Bulgarians, proud as Europeans, as part of this common space, and together we should build our prosperity and economic strength,” Chobanova said.

She added that we are living in very complex times, which makes it important to know each other well and support one another.

During the official opening, Mayor Pencho Milkov presented the head of the “Europe Direct” centre, Anna-Maria Hristova, with an icon of Saint George, and Yordanka Chobanova received a digital business card.
