Volleyball heroes Simeon and Alexander Nikolov from the men’s national team set off for the tournament from the village of Gorna Malina and will return tomorrow with their silver medals. Before the start of the World Championship, a video showed Vladimir Nikolov sending off his sons from the yard of their family home in Gorna Malina, heading to the Philippines, where the championship took place.

“It is an honor for us to extend our greetings. We are proud that Vlado Nikolov is an honorary citizen of the municipality. The Nikolov family gave Bulgaria two wonderful boys who managed to inspire the entire country. We will attend the official welcome. The next honorary citizens of the municipality will be Moni and Alex. These individuals set an example for the youth – to be strong, inspired, to fight and to succeed,” said the Mayor of Gorna Malina, Eng. Angel Zhilanov, in an interview for the show Denyat Zapochva (“The Day Begins”).

The mayor stated that the two brothers will be awarded the title of honorary citizens of the municipality and reminded that their father already holds this title.
