After the first-of-its-kind energy community at the Regional Non-Hazardous Waste Depot, Gabrovo is creating a second one – this time the focus is on clean transport. On April 28, the Municipality of Gabrovo and Municipal Passenger Transport published a public invitation to recruit new participants.

A few days after the invitation was opened to all individuals, local authorities, including municipalities, non-governmental organizations and small or medium-sized enterprises to join the Energy Community – there are already 22 participants and funds in the amount of 69,500 leva have been subscribed.

The initiative shows consistent actions of the local authorities on the path to the sustainable transformation of the city. The second community will be at “Municipal Passenger Transport” EOOD, as a new photovoltaic installation with a capacity of 150 kWp will be built on the roof of the building, which is of public importance. It will power the Municipal Company providing public passenger transport in the city with clean, solar energy. Through shared financing and collective management, participants in the new energy community will have the opportunity to:

· Gain access to energy from renewable sources at fixed and fair prices

· Direct part of their activities to social causes

· Participate in management and decision-making

· Create a new type of connection between local authorities, citizens and businesses

Currently, the invitation is open only to participants registered in the territory of the municipality of Gabrovo, and in the next stage 2 - it will be open to participants from other regions of the country.
